Beans Don’t Burn on the Grill

I’m using the community computers at the coffee house down the street to write this post. Since my landlord is showing my apartment to a prospective renter right now. This will be the first of many showings of the place until I move out of it at the end of the month.

Yep, the same day I punched out the window I got a knock on the door from my landlord. I was mistaken about when our arrangement for a month-to-month lease was over, and it wasn’t the end of February like I thought, but right now.

Luckily, I’m a total nomad and have very few belongings–which is how I like it. I could gather up all my stuff in my knotted comforter and carry it on my back, save my computer. Until it shit the bed*, my 19″ monitor was the biggest thing I owned except for my mattresses. Which live on the floor.

So. After my landlord informed me my stay was abbreviated, I did the only thing I knew to do: I told the VCB, who was hiding in the bathroom, “Suprise! I’m moving in!”

Now, the only suprise part was the immediacy of it all. The VCB and I had already made plans to live together in sin once my lease was up (I thought) in March. Thing is we were planning on making our first place together somewhere in Nashville, rather that Murfreesboro. Now the plan is as follows:

Move in with the VCB and his roomies, a cute, veggie couple who share one bedroom of the two-bedroom house on Janurary 1. We will share the house (just a mile away from my current apt.) for about three months until our Spring move to Nashville. My share of the rent will be under $200 AND I’ll be nesting with my favoritest boy in the whole world AND I get to be where my bike is AND I sure did miss hardwood floors AND now I’ll have a full-sized fridge in an actual kitchen where I can properly cook a proper meal. All things excellent.

I’m going to enjoy getting away from the construction of downtown Murfreesboro and that cramped, single roomed-studio and the nearly total lack of privacy, what with my immediate next door neighbor in the building being a busy attorney with tons of foot traffic.

But I’m going to miss living alone. This may be the last time I ever do so. I’m going from no roommates to three, and while that situation is merely temporary until the VCB and I get our own place in Big City Nashville, it’s going to be some kind of transition. Guess I’m going to have to start closing the bathroom door when I pee and start cleaning regularly and being respectful of others and their stuff.

And I wonder about my writing. Will it suffer with the noise of people living with me and above me? Will I find the time or space to write like I did in my cubby hole studio for one? That place was conducive to an awful lot of word hurling. I really liked living there and found the small space calming and comfortable.

Looks like things are moving right along.
