Right now Liz Phair is warbling her way through “Walking in a Winter Wonderland” on Conan O’Brien.
It’s painful. It’s so goddamn horrible.
If I could interview Liz Phair I think I would start with this question: “What happened to you that you forgot you can’t sing?”

Weird,I was just watching that too, whilst packaging socks. And thought, Wow, she sucks.
First, horrible song. Second, horrible rendition of a horrible song.
And this is the first time I’ve ever heard her sing.
I didn’t see the performance in question, but Liz has always been, at least to my eye, quite attractive.

Liz Phair was and is hot in that “looks kinda dumb, but probably quite smart if you listen to what she has to say” sort of way, and her first album was really quite good. From there, she started making money, got less pissed off, and started to suck (see also, Sinead O’Connor, PJ Harvey, Tori Amos).
she sucks. But I guess her kid needs to go to college, so she’s busy whoring herself out wherever she can, trying to make a buck before her tits start to sag.

Liz is awesome. I didn’t see the Winter Wonderland stuff but the I think the her songs, the ones she composes and sings, are great. Yeah she might have “sold out”, but even her sell out songs don’t suck, they’re just normal pop songs. And I’m ok with those. She never pretended to be indie so I don’t really fault her.
And I love her voice. I think she can sing. This assessment is based on her albums, not on the performance of Winter Wonderland.
Okay, first of all Liz is not cute. She is in great shape. I’d kill for her legs, but her face is seriously busted.
Secondly, I’ve never been a big fan of Ms. Phair. I listened to Exile in Guyville just like every fucking body. All the smart, cool boys I knew thought she was the bee’s knees, so I tuned in hoping to figure out why.
I still don’t know.
I always heard it was her keen lyrics that overrode her so-so voice and blase guitar playing. She was a songwriter, foremost, but I never saw the allure. So she referenced blow jobs. Big deal…
Now, it looks as thought Liz Phair isn’t even doing the songwriting part. I’ve heard just a bit of her new album, but I like Avril Lavigne’s precious faux-pop/punk crap better than that. And that is saying something. And at least Avril is cute!

Wow. I’m sure Phair is inadequate to the task of “Winter Wonderland” but the vestigial hating here is a little, well, gratuitous. I’m particularly intrigued by Kowgurl’s logic. Let’s say Phair’s kid DOES need to go to college. (I believe the child is pretty young, but I guess it’s never too early to start an education fund.) Would ANY cash-generating endeavor she took up be characterized as “whoring around?” “The money grubbing music business,” you say? That’s what we elitists who went to college would call a “tautology,” Kowgurl. And I don’t think Phair’s tits are going to sag for a while—they’re small and perky enough to resist gravity for some time. I’d ask Kowgurl’s how hers are holding up, but that would be sexist.
I used to think Liz Phair was really good. And I still like those 1st two albums. A lot.
But I think I might have actually just had a crush on Brad Wood, who engineered, produced, and played many of the instruments on those albums.
He also produced this album by that dog. And that Veruca Salt album. And I think he used to play with Tortoise. Evidently, he uses ProTools now, and is also not hot.
Yawn. Liz-hating is so borecore. Get over it.

I admit it, I thought Liz Fair was a community function, I had no idea it was an actual person until recently.
I only listen to abstract. All I know is that when I see her for the first time, she sucks frosty’s carrot.
I don’t hate her; I don’t know her.
Maybe she could do a duo with Betty Balanced.
