Journey’s Greatest Hits? What’s your bf’s mullet look like, anyway?
Similar to yours, but less greasy.
DVD’s I currently own=none.
Pips just bought our first DVD player last weekend, we haven’t hooked it up yet. Consider me the apres garde.
I’ve also never seen any of the Star Wars prequels, a single episode of Sic Feet Under, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and I’ve never been to a rave or a dance club. I also haven’t been on an airplane since I was 18, been in a hot tub since I was 11, and I’ve only ever eaten one salad.
You’ll have to excuse me now, Matlock’s on.
DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN DOUG
DId you like Ringu? I never saw either but my sister is a horror movie buff and LOVES the original. I don’t blame her - I hear it’s much much better than the American version.
I love that you own ATHF and Drop Dead Gorgeous.
You’re missing Willow…and the Seven Samurai. Actually, you’re missing a lot of great movies…get busy Brit!! Or tell your bf to get busy. Or, get busy together…eeewwww!!
Last count I was up to 350+ DVDs. No list for me :)
You do have a lot of quality there, so its worth noting. 39 Steps? You continue to impress!
bf needs to get out more.
I see you have Tykwer’s “Princess and the Warrior” on your list. I highly recommend his “Winter Sleepers” and “Heaven“. Both beautiful, hypnotic films, and both etter than “Run Lola Run”, methinks.
Also, if you are ever in the mood for something totally bizarre, check out “Gozu“, which contains a lot of, well, lactating. And a guy in y-fronts wearing an animatronic cow-head.
Muffy Wong, I wish I could agree with what you’ve heard about Ringu. I have both (The Ring and Ringu) and felt that the American version did a much better job of capturing the darkness of the story. Ringu was too jolly, too bright, and way too clean for me. I wasn’t bad, but the cold, dirty, wet, dreary American version held me in its grip long after the first killing, whereas Ringu hit a plateau after the first killing and never really picked up.
That’s just my opinion, of course. I know lots of folks think Ringu is better. Folks should watch both for sure.
…hey, no Eraserhead? No David Lynch Short Films DVD? (Eraserhead from Lynch’s web site is beautiful, or at least as beautiful as a movie like Eraserhead can be. He did an awesome job cleaning it up.)
The [bf] does most of his digital movie viewing in non-DVD formats, so the ones he has bought are a poor representation of his taste.
And the Journey DVD was a (fucking awesome and very much appreciated) gift (that I might have bought for myself had I known of its existence).
Also, this list omits The Piano[bf]
bf seems a wee bit defensive.
You’re too close to this case now, Chief. We’re taking over. We’ll need your corner office, a whole bunch of donuts stacked no more than three high and every single Night Ranger eight track you have listed in your registry.
girlfriend, really, I’m ready for you to write some mo shit
Tonight. After work.
There will be writing.
I have to work a double shift at the Waffle House tonight. :(
Erat, just checked back on new comments.
Honestly, I’ve never seen either. I’m not a big fan of horror movies. My sister, being Asian, might be biased. Growing up though, Asian horror movies have scared me much more than Western ones… that cheap make up and cheesy lightning … something about that just scares the shit out of me.
You have a point though. A bigger budget always lends to better quality.
MW, I know what you mean with the cheap makeup and cheesy lighting stuff. Sometimes that freaks me out, too, kind of the same way that clowns sometimes freak me out. I have no logical explanation for it, either. Strange…
Asian horror movies — at least the ones I’ve seen — seem to be disturbing on a much more subtle level than Western horror movies. Many of the people who didn’t like either Ringu or The Ring didn’t seem to grasp the underlying disturbance that permeated each film (my only beef with Ringu was that — in my opinion — the visual experience didn’t complement the psychological experience).
Similar things can be said of Asian “post-modern” fiction like The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami. It’s disturbing in a subtle, David Lynch way, but folks who didn’t see the psychological undercurrent of the story (instead, focusing on just the surface stuff like sex and death scenes) tended to not care for the book. I thought it was awesome. That’s just me, though.
Anyway, ’nuff about that.
Was Britney on that list. I love her stuff. Just got a new Britney, t-shirt. It’s cool.
