We moved. It was an excruciating 2 1/2 day process, but we did it. We moved all our shit down the stairs and over the river to East Nashville. This morning I had to climb on the couch and over a box to get my deodorant, but it was still better than getting ready at our previous place. That apartment was so ridiculously small.
My dad and my sister and her boyfriend helped us get all the big stuff and most of the other things on Saturday morning. The boyfriend arranged online for a U-Haul the week prior. The day before he called them only to learn they had no moving truck for us despite our confirmation number. They offered us a truck from 7 pm to 7 am on Friday night. As if we were going to move at midnight. The manager was supposed to call us back about the problem, but never did. U-Haul is a worthless motherfucking company who does not honor their reservations, and they have shit for customer service. Shit, I tell you.
So we rented from Budget. They were more expensive but the truck was pimp. If I had to drive across country in a moving truck I would definitely choose a Budget truck. The seats were comfortable, there was digital AM and FM radio as well as an icy cold air conditioner. Also plenty of room for drinks, since people who move are often thirsty.
The family arrived at 8 p.m on Saturday. We had everything on the truck within two hours. My dad stayed on the truck organizing what we brought down. The four others of us took on moving all that crap from upstairs to downstairs like it was a timed mission. We were all wired on coffee and did not know our own limitations. The next day my sister called to complain that her legs and arms were aching and sore. I told her my calves felt like hot coils under my skin.
Yesterday was spent moving everything we didn’t get the day before. When you move there is always so much more crap than you anticipate. Where does it all come from? It’s like your belongings get together and multiply. Shoes especially, those horny fucks. The boyfriend scrubbed our apartment until it sparkled. It is cleaner than when we moved in. If we don’t get our deposit back heads are gonna roll. Thing is I don’t think we’ll have much trouble with that since we think our sloppy, fatass neighbor just moved out unannounced in the middle of the night. She did manage to take the (no lie!) dozens of trashbags she had sitting in her kitchen against the glass doors, but left anything else she didn’t want just strewn about. Our landlord showed up yesterday with his giant diesel truck and filled the entire bed of his truck with her garbage. We heard him across the hall vacuuming and scrubbing and cussing. So we’re thinking we’ll have no problem getting the deposit back.
I left the boyfriend asleep in our new house this morning. I came to work an hour early to check my email and update this blog (for once). We still don’t have internets access and I had to get my fix. See, I’m not going to be blogging all day today like I normally do. I’m starting VJ training today. It will be six straight days (sometimes 10-12 hours a day) of learning to shoot and write and edit news stories that may air on our newscasts. It kinda feels like the first day of school. I’m excited to learn something new.
Lately everything is brand new.
