I’ve done it.
While out walking Tootie this morning I saw a dog sitting contentedly at the front door of his home. The wooden door was slung open, but the glass screen door was closed, trapping the dog behind it. He just sat there, looking out the window, happy as a lark to be watching the cars drive by or the birds gather on his lawn.
Then it occured to me. I have a glass screen door. I can open the wooden door and allow Tootie a window to the world. This may seem like an obvious solution to you, but for whatever reason it never occured to me.
It never occured to me on all those mornings when I was trying to prepare for work at my computer with her paws digging into my back that she could be fully entertained by an open door. She is particularly wild in the AM, when we typically play the eternal game of In & Out, but now she is sitting at the door, peeking out, not barking or scratching at the pane or anything. Perfectly happy.
Like I said, I am a goddamn genius. Thank you doggie in the window on Thistlewood Lane. You’ve just saved my mornings.

We do the same thing for our cat. It keeps him occupied for hours, especially in the afternoon when the sun is coming through the glass.
Ditto what Linda said. On the rare occasion I open the front door, Eddie acts like it’s a whole different world than from just a few feet away in the window. And I have a screen door in the kitchen that he loves more than anything (except the screened porch I had in Memphis).
HaHa. Jack loves to say “Thistlewood” when we come over to your house.
I just moved into a ground-level apartment (something I’ve never had before). I was apprehensive, but it has completely cured my psycho cat from running around like a nutjob at 3AM…all I have to do is open the blinds in the morning before I leave for work! It’s like TV.
Careful, the handle on that glass door is easy to open and hard to close.
Also, I like to take my pants off as soon as I get home.
My dogs love the doors and windows to be open. They just BARK, BARK, AND BARK. Drives me crazy, I wonder why they just can’t enjoy the scenery. So needless to say the blinds stay shut and the door is closed.
Pippin loves to stare out the front and back glass!! But it’s a dead give away for nosy neighbors who want to stop by or people selling crap so I’m selective about when he gets to watch out the front!
Yeah, I tried opening the door, and we got a salesman at 7pm selling Spic and Span. NO THANKS I CAN GET THAT AT THE STORE.
