I think the dream is trying to tell you not to take crap from other people no matter how charming and “small” they seem.

Cats represent wise female enemies or the part of your anima/self (since you are female) that causes you discomfort. In the dream context you mentioned there could be two interpretations:

1. A woman you disagree with makes you say things you don’t want to say. I.E. fighting with your mother makes you lose your temper when you don’t want to.

2. You are quarelling within yourself.

This is all strictly Freudian, so if you don’t buy into Freud, you don’t buy into this.
