- Women are touchy about weight. I mean I knew that, but holy shit, I just got a whole new lesson.
- Feminists can be vicious bitches to the very women they strive to embolden. I knew that, too. But that knowledge has been reaffirmed thrice over.

It amuses me how women completely ignore that, in reality, the dieting phenomenon isn’t driven by the average male. Girls at all different weights get plenty of male attention. Other women have told me I shouldn’t eat that cookie or I should spend some time in the gym. And, no matter what you want to believe, you can’t gloss over the health aspect. Going from 130 to 160 led me to a chronic back problem that is way more painful than denying myself some Doritos.
The thing that got me is everyone is piling on this word “diet” saying that it’s evil, etc. I looked it up on dictionary.com, and while there is an entry about reducing food portions, the first definition for the noun version is “food and drink considered in terms of its qualities, composition, and its effects on health” and the first entry for the verb form is “to regulate the food of, esp. in order to improve the physical condition.” Hmm…so let me get this straight: if we regulate what we put in our bodies for the sake of our health, we are dieting? Well call me a dieter then. Both my parents have over-the-top cholesterol and triglycerides, and diabetes runs in my family. I’m watching what I eat for something beyond getting attention. Since when did diet become a bad word?
