I recently read in a comment thread re: Eggers that at one time folks struggled to establish themselves as McSweeney’s fans long before the public discovered McSweeney’s, but nowadays lots of folks are fighting for the honor of being the first to start hating McSweeney’s. Some of the “I hated McSweeney’s/Eggers first” discussion are quite pathetic.
Fuck ‘em all. I love McSweeney’s. The writing is great, the publications are unique, and–occasional shipping delays aside–I think it’s a great outfit and I like supporting them. I gave them nothing during their recent fundraising event. However, if I had spare $$ I would have sent a few bucks their way.
I guess I’m just not cool enough to hate McSweeney’s.
