I fell asleep on the couch last night with the t.v. on, as I am wont to do. I opened my eyes to a revolting sight. On News 2 This Morning Julie Kroenig was describing a video that played alongside her very blonde head. It was of a 3, maybe 4 year-old girl, obviously under the influence of ecstasy. The adults in the car were saying, “She’s rolling! She’s rolling!,” while the child’s eyes fluttered back in their sockets. It was one of the most disturbing, sickening things I have seen on local news in a long time. The story, however, was not local. In fact, the only news they had was that a pamphlet in the car led investigators to the child’s mother.
Having worked in a newsroom for a couple of years, I am 99% certain the reason why they ran that story is because they had that “compelling” video. It got my attention, alright. It made me want to vomit. A toddler on hard drugs is not the first thing I want to see upon waking. I imagine there are others out there like me.
I don’t fault News 2 for running the video. It’s a “talker,” and they are in the business of ratings. But, for the first time in my life I find myself wondering if they should have waited until the 10 p.m. newscast to show something like that. Not that I would have found it any less sickening late at night, but now I’m going to be thinking about that horrifying scene all day. It was truly scarring.

I guess the possible flipside is that if they’d played it at 10, you might be left thinking about it all night. I know I would, and I’d probably be unable to sleep because of it. So, I dunno, it would probably suck either way.
Night would be better for me, though Kate o’ (love the name!) has a point. Thing is, my stomach is a couple of hours behind the rest of my bod in waking up in the morning. Maybe I’m defective, but that’s how I roll.
Either way, nasty thing to see on news.
*but that’s how I roll*
Dude.
IF YOU CAN’T STAND THE HEAT STAY OUT OF THE BAKERY
WE FIRED YOUR ASS FOR A REASON GILBERT
Stories like that are one of the reasons I don’t watch a lot of TV news.
On the internet you can click (or not) on the video. On TV , you have to eat what’s set before you.
Our 10 o’clock news in Oklahoma also played that video. Our local newscaster said that the video was being played on the internet and they showed it on the local news in hopes of getting tips about the whereabouts of the child.
I just stumbled across this video online and holy hell … that is some disturbing shit. The way that they pinch and slap her face makes it ten times worse.
I agree. Sometimes, I just wish they wouldn’t air some of this stuff…but then again, maybe people need to see just what kind of sick freaks are out there.
I only caught part of this newscast. How incredibly sad. I am the mother of five. This saddens me greatly.
why would anyone related to that child let that happen? Someone needs to go to jail.
What Marsha said, except for the “mother of five” part. Father. Of two. So freaking sad.
I hope they both get convicted and end up with cellmates who like to pinch, slap and make them roll their eyes. Among other things.

This sort of sensationalized coverage belongs in criminal court, not on the airwaves.
This sort of story is hardly news-worthy. I mean, its infotainment value is beyond dispute. But it’s not news.
First: WKRN ACTION ROLL is a dickhead.
Second: I have an ex who was, still is, a serious drug addict. That’s the kind of thing she’d do. I’m not insinuating that anyone who enjoys recreational chemicals is a nutjob but people who take it too far tend to become really divorced from reality.
I’m sure that whoever gave this girl the drugs, or negligently let her acquire and imbibe them, doesn’t really understand that they did anything wrong.
i just saw on snopes. i am so glad it was not what we thought.
you think that the stations who aired the video will report this as well?
