She swung pink-sandaled feet in time to music no one heard. The spoon that held her milky reflection was nearly as large as her face. The grown-ups on either side of her spoke intently to one another, leaving coffee cold and the tab untouched. They’d ordered her dessert, a rare treat, and for a few swollen moments her whole world was in that cup.
