To be fair, and as discussed in comments here, the majority of Democrats in the Senate, and an overwhelming majority of Democrats in the House, did oppose this shit. Meanwhile, Republicans were near-universal in their support.
Would it be better if the few Democrats who supported this were replaced by true progressives? Yes. Would it be better if there were fewer Republicans in Congress? Absolutely.
But thanks to rhetoric like this, even though just a joke, a good chunk of voters are going to think that “the Democrats” supported this (or, at least, failed to oppose it). It drives me nuts that this is somehow “the Democrats’” fault, when all but two Republicans voted in favor of it. The answer
That said, in this case it really isn’t (or shouldn’t be) a partisan issue. The question is, was the “asshole” that you voted for “against this shit?” If no, you should send him or her a nasty-gram, irrespective of party. (For the record, my Democratic representative voted Nay. One of my Republican Senators voted Yea, while the other abstained.)
