Grisly River Rampage

UPDATE: My umbrella broke at the MacArthur BART station. Not because of the weather, but because of the mechanical parts malfunctioning. I couldn’t get it closed. The train was arriving, I tried to put my umbrella down, and I couldn’t. I couldn’t take that soaking wet thing that wouldn’t close on the train, where people were crammed into one another. I tried to stuff it in the trash, but it wouldn’t fit. I opted, at the last second, to just leave it propped up beside the receptacle. (Stop judging me, I didn’t want to litter.)
A crowded train ride later I arrived at my stop, where the operator said, “Arriving at Embarcadero. Embarcadero Station; I’m glad we made it.” The high winds and debris on the tracks were causing major delays. I walked the ten blocks to work in the rain, my thighs getting soaked, since everything else was waterproof. As I was crossing the intersection at Broadway and Battery the cross signals stopped working. Power out. I scurried across before the intersection became an entangled mess.
Wild is the wind.
UPDATE #2: When I left work, nine hours later, the crosswalk was still without power. There were flares in the road instead warning drivers of the malfunction. Yep, actual fire.

A friend of mine whipped this up on his MacBook after watching extras from David Lynch’s Inland Empire. Without further ado, I give you David Lynch on the iPhone:

What I Learned Today
January 4th, 2008 — Assorted, San Francisco
Noe Valley is pronounced “no-ee” not just “no.” It does not, as I thought, rhyme with toe.
